Lower Saxony, Bremen and Saarland


Lower Saxony’s home to one of the most famous names in automotive industry, Volkswagen. With 5 plants and a 20% share of the private company owned by Lower Saxony (government), Volkswagen is by far the most famous of Lower Saxony’s industrial sector located in Wolfsburg. Lower Saxony is also known for its Mining of silver ore, iron and salt which started as early as the 12th century. Lesser known is the storage of Radioactive waste in Salzgitter which stores high level waste.

Bremen is home to the second largest Airbus aircraft assembly plant, Mercedes-Benz and Beck & co’s/St. Pauli girl beer.  Lesser known, it home to the 1st and 3rd space companies of the European Union.

Saarland’s industry was home to Coal mining in the past, but is now home to Steel, ceramic and computer science.
